Information for you about your .dk domain name

If you currently have a .dk domain name that is handled by Punktum dk, here is important information for you. This will change in the future.

As of July 1, 2026, we at Punktum dk are changing the way we handle .dk domain names. If you have a .dk domain name that is currently managed directly by Punktum dk, you must choose, by June 30, 2028, which registrar will manage your domain name going forward.

You can already now choose the registrar you would like to have manage your domain name. We recommend that you do this well in advance, so you can find the registrar that best suits your needs.

If you have any questions, you can find answers under frequently asked questions at the bottom of the page.

Punktum dk wants to make it easy to be a customer

With this change, we have the registrant – i.e. you who have a .dk domain name, in focus. You may find it a bit of a hassle that you sometimes have to get in touch with Punktum dk and other times your registrar when it comes to your .dk domain name. We are changing that, and in the future, you will only have to contact one place: At your registrar. Many also have hosting and perhaps other services through the registrar. Therefore, it makes sense to let you, as a customer, have direct contact with the registrar in all matters relating to your .dk domain name.

The decision to switch to registrar management does not change the fact that Punktum dk will continue to be the party responsible for the basic IT infrastructure, the database registration of .dk domain names and general security.

Don't worry – nothing will happen to your website, and you can switch to registrar management right now

There are no changes that affect the .dk domain itself, and you don't have to worry about whether your website will work in the future.

The change simply means that in the future you will only have to talk to the reseller when it comes to your .dk domain name.

However, this requires you to decide which reseller will handle your .dk domain name in the future. You are free to choose the reseller you want. Many people find it easy to choose the reseller that already hosts your website. If you are in doubt about who is hosting your website, you can look up your .dk domain name in our WHOIS database, and here you will be able to see which reseller it is under "name servers".

Registrar management

If you want to move to registrar management, you can do so now. The first thing you need to do is generate an authorization code (AuthID). Follow the guide below.

You can easily generate an authorization code (AuthID/EPP code) via our self-service portal, which you can then provide to your registrar.

Here's how to do it:

Step 1

Go to https://selvbetjening.punktum.dk/ and log in.

Step 2

Click on "Domain names" in the top left corner.

Step 3

Select the domain name in question.

Trin 4

On the right-hand side, under the section "Generate authorisation codes/authID" , click "Change registrar".

Trin 5

Click "Generate Code".

You will now see an authorization code, which you can share with your new provider if you wish to transfer your domain.

Please note that an auth-ID cannot be generated if the domain has been invoiced or if it is locked, for example due to bankruptcy, liquidation, merger, or estate administration.

You can easily generate an authorization code (AuthID/EPP code) via our self-service, which you can then pass on to your provider or retailer.

Here's how:

Step 1

Press the 3 lines in the top right corner.

An authorization code/transfer code is now generated which can be given to the registrar/webhost:

code is ready

The code is valid for 14 days. If it is not used, the registrant can always log in to Punktum dk's self-service and generate a new code.

Find a registrar

Once the authorization code has been generated, you must find the reseller you want to manage your .dk domain name.

  1. Start by looking up your domain in our WHOIS, and see who is your host under "name servers".
Find a registrar that offers reseller management
  2. Not all registrars support registrar management yet. You can find those that do here. In the list, search under "registrar management".
  3. Once you have found the reseller you want to manage your domain in the future, you contact the reseller and provide the authorization code. From here, the reseller will guide you further.

Punktum dk encourages you to contact the resellers if you want to hear more about the products and services they offer.

But when will changes happen for you who have a domain?

The changes towards the new model, where it is the registrar who handles all matters related to the .dk domain name, will take place gradually.

From July 1st, 2026, you can:

  • Only register new .dk domain names with registrar management
  • Only register and renew .dk domain names for one year at a time
  • Registra managed .dk-domain names can no loger be transferd to Punktum dk

If you have a domain that is not managed by a registrar, you must choose which registrar will handle your .dk domain name in the future from this date. You must have chosen a dealer before June 30th, 2028.

Why this change?

Same model as in other countries – a strengthening of competition

In Denmark, we have so far had a model that stands out from most other administrators. By changing the way .dk domain names are handled, we are leaning on the model that most other domain administrators operate on.

This also means that more international registrars will be interested in working with us, and in this way contribute to continued high and healthy competition among registrars of .dk domain names. It's good for the prices, quality and safety.

Secure domains – also in the future

Punktum dk has a long-standing collaboration with both Danish and foreign registrars of .dk domain names. The collaboration to increase security on the Danish part of the Internet and to maintain the position as one of the world's most secure domains continues, and it is Punktum dk's most important task to continue to ensure that all registrars of .dk domain names commit to contributing to the dissemination of DNSSEC and other security standards.

Punktum dk will also continue to ensure that ID and data checks have been carried out on all registrants. This is crucial for the security of .dk domain names and remains central for Punktum dk.

Frequently asked questions

Punktum dk administers all .dk domain names.

This means that we are responsible for, among other things, the registration of .dk domain names and the IT infrastructure that keeps the .dk domain running.

If your .dk domain name is currently managed directly by Punktum dk, you must transfer it to a registrar no later than 30 June 2028. However, you are welcome to do so now.

As the registrant, you choose a new registrar and transfer your .dk domain name to them.

Your website and domain name will continue as before. The only change is who will help you with your .dk domain name going forward.

You need to choose a registrar because, going forward, .dk domain names must be managed through a registrar and not directly with Punktum dk.

We are changing the model to make it simpler for you to have a .dk domain name. In future, you will only need to contact one place when you need help with your domain name: your registrar.

For many people, it will be natural to choose the registrar they already use for their website, web hosting or other services.

Existing .dk domain names with a long subscription period will not be affected when the transition period begins on July 1, 2026.

All registrants must choose a registrar – even if they have .dk domain names that have been paid for more than one year in advance. Punktum dk will ensure that all domain names with a remaining validity of more than one year will remain active for the entire prepaid period, at the price already paid.

However, it will no longer be possible to renew a domain for a new “multi-year” period. For example, if you currently have a five-year or ten-year .dk domain name, it will remain valid for the full duration of that period.

After that, renewals will be invoiced on a yearly basis.

No, your .dk domain name cannot continue to be managed directly by Punktum dk after 30 June 2028.

If your .dk domain name is currently managed by Punktum dk, you must therefore choose a registrar no later than 30 June 2028.

You do not need to do anything right now, but you must choose a registrar before the deadline. Once you have chosen a registrar, they can help you with the next steps.

No, not in the way many people associate with a transfer.

There will be no changes that affect the .dk domain itself, and you do not need to worry about whether your website will continue to work in the future. The change is that, going forward, your .dk domain name must be managed by a registrar instead of directly by Punktum dk.

In other words, you will keep your .dk domain name, but you need to choose which registrar will manage it going forward.

As the registrant, it is up to you to choose which registrar will manage your .dk domain name in the future.

Punktum dk cannot recommend one specific registrar over another. You are free to choose the registrar you prefer. For many people, it will be natural to choose the registrar they already use for their website, web hosting or other services.

You can find a list of registrars here:

No, Punktum dk does not charge a fee to transfer your .dk domain name to management by a registrar.

How the transfer itself takes place depends on the registrar you choose. You can still retrieve an authorisation code in Punktum dk’s self-service, which the registrar will need in order to manage your .dk domain name.

You need to choose which registrar will manage your .dk domain name in the future.

Punktum dk will not automatically transfer you to a specific registrar. This is because the choice of registrar is yours. Once you have chosen a registrar, you must provide them with an authorisation code, which you can generate in our self-service.

You do not need to take any action right now.

From 1 July 2026, Punktum dk will change the way .dk domain names are managed. If your .dk domain name is currently managed by Punktum dk, you will need to choose a registrar between mid-2026 and 30 June 2028 at the latest.

You can, however, choose a registrar now if you would like your domain name to be managed by a registrar before the deadline.

See the list of registrars

Once you have chosen the registrar that will manage your .dk domain name, you need to log in to Punktum dk’s self-service portal and generate an authorisation code/AuthID.

You then provide the code to your chosen registrar. The registrar will help you with the rest of the process.

The authorisation code is valid for 14 days. If it is not used, you can log in and generate a new one.

Get help with the process of transferring your domain name

It is correct that the change begins on 1 July 2026.

From that date, new .dk domain names can only be registered through a registrar, and existing domain names that are not already managed by a registrar must begin the process of choosing one.

If you already have a .dk domain name that is currently managed by Punktum dk, you must have chosen a registrar no later than 30 June 2028.

Both dates are therefore correct: the change starts in 2026, and the deadline for existing customers is in 2028.
