Frequently asked questions

Punktum dk administers all .dk domain names.

This means that we are responsible for, among other things, the registration of .dk domain names and the IT infrastructure that keeps the .dk domain running.

If your .dk domain name is currently managed directly by Punktum dk, you must transfer it to a registrar no later than 30 June 2028. However, you are welcome to do so now.

As the registrant, you choose a new registrar and transfer your .dk domain name to them.

Your website and domain name will continue as before. The only change is who will help you with your .dk domain name going forward.

You need to choose a registrar because, going forward, .dk domain names must be managed through a registrar and not directly with Punktum dk.

We are changing the model to make it simpler for you to have a .dk domain name. In future, you will only need to contact one place when you need help with your domain name: your registrar.

For many people, it will be natural to choose the registrar they already use for their website, web hosting or other services.

No, your .dk domain name cannot continue to be managed directly by Punktum dk after 30 June 2028.

If your .dk domain name is currently managed by Punktum dk, you must therefore choose a registrar no later than 30 June 2028.

You do not need to do anything right now, but you must choose a registrar before the deadline. Once you have chosen a registrar, they can help you with the next steps.

No, not in the way many people associate with a transfer.

There will be no changes that affect the .dk domain itself, and you do not need to worry about whether your website will continue to work in the future. The change is that, going forward, your .dk domain name must be managed by a registrar instead of directly by Punktum dk.

In other words, you will keep your .dk domain name, but you need to choose which registrar will manage it going forward.

As the registrant, it is up to you to choose which registrar will manage your .dk domain name in the future.

Punktum dk cannot recommend one specific registrar over another. You are free to choose the registrar you prefer. For many people, it will be natural to choose the registrar they already use for their website, web hosting or other services.

You can find a list of registrars here:

No, Punktum dk does not charge a fee to transfer your .dk domain name to management by a registrar.

How the transfer itself takes place depends on the registrar you choose. You can still retrieve an authorisation code in Punktum dk’s self-service, which the registrar will need in order to manage your .dk domain name.

You need to choose which registrar will manage your .dk domain name in the future.

Punktum dk will not automatically transfer you to a specific registrar. This is because the choice of registrar is yours. Once you have chosen a registrar, you must provide them with an authorisation code, which you can generate in our self-service.

You do not need to take any action right now.

From 1 July 2026, Punktum dk will change the way .dk domain names are managed. If your .dk domain name is currently managed by Punktum dk, you will need to choose a registrar between mid-2026 and 30 June 2028 at the latest.

You can, however, choose a registrar now if you would like your domain name to be managed by a registrar before the deadline.

See the list of registrars

Once you have chosen the registrar that will manage your .dk domain name, you need to log in to Punktum dk’s self-service portal and generate an authorisation code/AuthID.

You then provide the code to your chosen registrar. The registrar will help you with the rest of the process.

The authorisation code is valid for 14 days. If it is not used, you can log in and generate a new one.

It is correct that the change begins on 1 July 2026.

From that date, new .dk domain names can only be registered through a registrar, and existing domain names that are not already managed by a registrar must begin the process of choosing one.

If you already have a .dk domain name that is currently managed by Punktum dk, you must have chosen a registrar no later than 30 June 2028.

Both dates are therefore correct: the change starts in 2026, and the deadline for existing customers is in 2028.
